Brand New 'Old Stock' 'KAM LSD' Matching Front and Rear 3.75 Heavy Duty CWPs both in Pegged Casings
When it comes to having better handling on and off road differential wise, you are looking at either ATBs, AATBs, True Tracs or LSDs.
They pretty much all do the same thing, just in slightly differing ways, but the idea is to 'Tighten' up the handling making the 4 x wheels feel more 'Planted' on the Road, giving better handling,
a safer 4x4 all round, and in Off Road or poor conditions giving huge additional traction - which they do all the time, ...and automatically.
To really simplify ATBs (Quaife) AATBs and Tru-Tracs do this - again in different ways - and do it via gears. LSDs do it through special LSD Plates
Now the 'Geared' units are good in that they are strong and just require Oil Changes, they work automatically balancing the drive to each of the 4 wheel to aid traction and thus grip,
and LSDs do the same job, but ATBs AATB TTs Etc do this via gears, but, and here is a very Key difference - ATBs are set at factory, whilst LSDs can be altered to allow differing amounts
of 'Grip' vs set at factory.
When I worked at KAM years ago we sold a huge number of these, and one of the key reasons we sold so many was the ability to have adjustable loading / grip.
With 2 x Quaifes or 2 x AATB Ashcrofts, the 'grip' on both front and rear differential is the same, and it can be that some people find that with these the 'Grip' exerted on the front / and
then up to and into the steering can feel a bit 'Too Much'...
So, what we did was simply to make the Rears 'A Little bit more grippy' than Quaifes and Ashcrofts AATBs and then the fronts 'A Little bit less grippy' than standard Quaife and Ashcroft AATBs.
Customers reported back that the set up was still absolutely amazing from a grip and saftey point of view, but easier to live with and drive - to a point they didn't really ever notice the
front had the LSD in there, it just transformed to 4x4 as LSDs and AATBs do !
.....And that brings us to these 2 little darlings ! .....
Amongst the massive amount of New Old Stock KAM Parts we bought in we had these !....
Both LSDs Both Brand New, Both 'KAM Old School Quality' and both 1 x Rear set up and 1 x Front Set up..... So we have decided to build them up for sale.
The Spec is that we have also decided that they will be in 'Pegged Casings', and both will be full Ultra Build Spec, both will have deadicated Front Rotation and Rear rotation CWPs,
Matching Oil Vane upgrades, Puma Flanges and our Superflanges, BUT we have just tweaked the gearing on the CW&Ps to 3.75 from 3.54 Ratio, not a huge jump but a nice one and we will now explain...
The 3.54:1 is Land Rovers standard ratio, if you were to fit these to a Land Rover with standard tyres sizes of circa 28-29 Inches high they woiuld be fine, just that 5th Gear would be at slightly
higher revs than on 3.54, but it will accelerate faster through the gears. However if you have fitted say 30-33 inch tyres then the gearing is now out, 5th gear becomes lazy and the 4x4
doesn't accelerate as it should - fitting these would in this instance correct than back to where the gearing should be - ie before the bigger tyres.
And being that these are a matching set of Front & Rear Rotation CW&Ps, and also Heavy Duty and in Pegged Casings - these are going to be a massive shock to your driving expereince !
Shame we can't get more, but here are a pair all brand new and ready to give your a 4x4 a real treat and handling that just feels completely different !
There is one other thing - you do need to run EP 80/90 LSD oil - easy to get - Amamzon sells it !!!, and its not bonkers money like modern car engine Oils - just make sure you change the oil
maybe 2 x a year (or more) as these units do work hard all the time and as such the oil takes a beating !.
This is ALSO true for all AATB and ATBs - just that you use a Non LSD EP 85/90 or even EP90...
It will be a shame to see these go, as its unlikely we will see more of them, I wish we could, but they did cost a huge amount of money to make, just as with the KAM 4 Pin Centers these are
seriously over engineered. The 3 x Parts of the main body being CNC heat treated billet steel, 12 x bolts to bolt the 3 x parts together and so on. Built to be what was the best you could get
for a LSD Differential for a Land Rover - and frankly these still stack up there with that same positioning - these are seriously strong !
And thats it really, a pair of really well built Brand new Front and Rear 3.75:1 HD CW&Ps Pegged Casings and Brand new KAM LSD Matching Front and rear too !
Picture 1 is the front Picture 2 is one that we took just before closing it all up (Both have been stripped cleaned and check - even though new - its an OCD Thing :O)....3rd is the Rear
When these have gone - the've gone - So think about them. These really are a bit of a opportunity, for either a Comp Safari Racer, or a Road Going 4x4 that wants to go and play 'Go-Cart'
stylee handling !!
There is a Video in the 'Gearing' Section - done years ago for a Friend, his comment at the end of the video is that he now loves chasing Golf GTis about for fun .....
